The Quincy University men's and women'sbasketball programs announced their schedules for the upcoming 2024-2025 season on Tuesday (Aug. 13). The women have 29 regular season games with an exhibition game to start the season while the men face 28 regular season contests and two preseason exhibitions on the docket.
Women's Schedule
Courtney Boyd and company begin their second bill at Quincy University for the 2024-25 season with a trip to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to face the University of Northern Iowa. The Panthers played a tough slate in the '23-24 season but did well in the Missouri Valley Conference, losing to the NCAA Tournament-bound Drake University in overtime.
The Hawks will scrimmage the Big Blue of Millikin University before officially beginning their season at the GLVC/GMAC Crossover Tournament, this year hosted by Cedarville. The Hawks will face Ursuline and Cedarville at the event. The Crossover is one of three tournaments Quincy will take part in this season which includes hosting the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home Classic on November 15-16th and traveling to Hawai'i for the Big Island Classic hosted by the University of Hawai'i - Hilo.
Quincy will host new-to-D2 Roosevelt University, Washburn University, and McKendree Universityat the Hansen-Spear Classic. This will be the Hawks first games on the newly renovated court at Pepsi Arena. Following the Classic, the Hawks will face Truman State and Hannibal LaGrange in non-conference contests prior to beginning GLVC play at Upper Iowa.
The Hawks will travel to Upper Iowa, Drury, and Missouri S&T to start off December before hosting GLIAC-Champion and Midwest Regional Finalist Grand Valley State. The Hawks and Lakers have not met since 2016 and will be tested well before the bulk of their conference season.
Quincy will escape the cold Midwest for a week and fly down to Hawai'ifor the Big Island Classic. The Hawks will face Fort Hayes State and Western Washington University.Quincy last trekked down to the Aloha State in 1978 where the Hawks went 1-2 for the week.
The Hawks will return to GLVC play in the new year, starting with a game against the Lincoln University Blue Tigers. Quincy will play 17 conference matches to end the season, facing Upper Iowa, Drury, Missouri S&T, UMSL, Lincoln, and Indianapolis twice during the conference leg. Quincy will finish its regular season at home against the Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis.
"I am looking forward tothis year's schedule," said head coach Courtney Boyd."We are going to be challenged with multiple styles of play before we get to the heart of our conferenceseason. Our goal for scheduling is to create as many opportunities to prepare us for the post season as possible. Opening the season with back to back games on our first few weekends will be a great start. This schedule is going to create challenges that we were not prepared for last season, but with a more veteran group, we are looking forward to getting started."
Men's Schedule
QU opens preseason play on October 16 in Fulton, MO facing off with the Owls of William Woods before hitting the road again on the 20th heading for Charleston for a showdown with DI opponent Eastern Illinois to conclude preseason play.
The Hawks kick off the regular season in Findlay, OH at the GMAC/GLVC Crossover hosted by University of Findlay. Quincy faces Cedarville University on November 8th, along with the host, Findlay on November 9th. QU defeated Findlay and lost to Cedarville to open the 23-24 campaign last season.
Prior to the start of the conference slate, the Hawks take on Hannibal-LaGrange on November 14th and Missouri Southern on the 16th, both at home before hitting the road to play Central Missouri for the first time in a decade on November 21st and University of Arkansas Fort Smith for the first time in the programs history on the 27th in Pepsi Arena.
QU opens December with its first conference contest of the season on the road at Upper Iowa on the 2nd before traveling again to Drury and Missouri S&T on the 5th and 7th, respectively, to close out the opening week of conference play.
In the 2024 edition of the QU hosted Hansen-Spear Funeral Home Classic, the Hawks will face off against National Christian College Athletic Association member Barclay College on December 14, followed by a matchup with Saginaw Valley State the next day to conclude the tournament.
The final 17 games and nearly three months of the season are all conference contests starting after the new year on January 3rd against the newest member of the GLVC in Lincoln University of Missouri. QU has faced the Blue Tigers twice, coming away victorious 90-84 in the teams last meeting on December 15, 2019.
UMSL comes to town on January 5th, followed by a road trip the next weekend to UINDY on the 9th and UIS on the 11th before returning home for three-straight contests against Upper Iowa on the 18th, William Jewell on the 23rd and Truman State on the 25th.
A trip down to SBU on the 30th rounds out the month of January as Quincy opens February on the road at Rockhurst on the 1st. The following week, Missouri S&T and Drury make the trip to Quincy for games on Thursday the 6th and Saturday the 8th, respectively before the Hawks hit the road for one at UMSL and one at Lincoln on the 13th and 15, respectively.
QU will see three familiar faces for the first time this season in the final two weeks of the year, welcoming McKendree to Pepsi Arena on February 20th followed by a visit from Maryville on the 22nd before going to see Lewis in Romeoville, IL on the 27th to conclude the road schedule for the 24-25 season.
The Hawks close the regular season at home on the 1st of March against the Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis with the GLVC Tournament to follow March 6-9 at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, MO.
Hawks Basketball season ticket sales will begin in September.
